Predator-pray interactions, a pilot experiment of owl hunting performance and prey survival
We are looking for an enthusiastic student (biological sciences) to participate in the research focusing on selection driven by bird of prey/owl predator. A pilot experiment will be conducted during summer months to estimate barn owl ability to discriminate its potential prey in variable microhabitat situations. A volunteer/trainee student will participate in preparing and conducting natural selection experiments.
The ultimate goal of this small project is to establish larger study that will aim to estimate strength and directions of predator driven natural selection on coloration (primarily and other phenotypes as well) in variable types of prays, and in variable microhabitat. As such, participating volunteer/trainee student will have opportunity to develop his/her research that could give grounds for thesis dissertation in the future. The study will be conducted in the animal facility of the Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos in Vairão (Portugal) were volunteer/trainee student will receive all necessary trainings and support from participating researchers.
