Nevas Regulaciones

Dave, This is the response I got from George Allen on the Eagle regulations.
Maybe you can pass it on to Dan and the other Eagle people and let them know
that this is not yet written in stone. Steve

Hi Steve

Thanks for the information. With the difficulty in reaching agreement with
Wildlife Services on eagle take this year, I expect that we're going to have to
revise the regulations to make eagle take for falconry more straightforward. I
expect that Dan's concerns will be addressed if we do.

As you noted, information on the golden eagle population in the West, and
actually in North America is needed. We can only use the data available, and I
doubt that everyone will agree on what the data show.

I hope that you're doing well.

George

This is nothing new! I am not involved to much with the eagle regs, but I knew
this in February after talking to George Allen on the phone about another issue.
Another thing not mentioned by Dan here is the numbers of eagles that will be
allowed to be trapped in the future will be less than in previous years. This is
because it was found that over the last, I can't remember how many years, say 5
to 7,( but don't quote me on that exact number), falconers have not even taken
the numbers allowed. So they cut it back to the max number taken on average
years or something like that. Sorry but it has been a while.
The reason behind this is whether you believe it or not. Eagle populations as
seen by FWS in North American are on the decline from 8 to 10 years ago or some
number like that.
What is needed is a nation wide study on Golden eagles to find out the total
number and their ranges and migratory patterns. Also, believe it or not this has
never been done, nation wide. It would be an ideal grant getter if anyone
interested out side the P-Fund and I am not sure if Granger Hunt wants the job.

FWS decided to do what they did on a broad spectrum basis, so if things look one
way here they must be that way there. This was done because they simply do not
have the man power to conduct a study of this size ad complexity and cost, which
will run about a half mil. Ask George if you don't believe me, he is a straight
up guy.
But don't say I didn't tell you so, because you guys are way out of touch with
what is really going on and if you would have opened your eye's and made a phone
call you could have had what you wanted, maybe. Pay attention and you could have
made comment! Which is another big problem with falconers in general! That's a
laugh.....But you all know that and I don't need to write a book tonight.
You NAFA guy's got who you voted for. The best thing they could do is make sure
you vote them all out!
